Today, perhaps more than ever, passwords are omnipresent. But are we using the “right” ones to keep our devices and data safe? Maybe not. Chris Wright, partner and co-founder of Sullivan Wright Technologies, joined KARK 4 during Cybersecurity Awareness Month to share his expert tips to keep employees safe.

Along with offering detailed guidance on the ideal length and complexity of potential passwords, such as those listed below, Chris highlighted the need for individuals to consider additional protective measures, including multi-factor authentication and password managers.

Best Practices for Passwords

• Forget the adage about simply focusing on passwords that are long, random, and unique.
• Create passwords that use passphrases with 4-7 memorable, unrelated words.
• Make identifiers (e.g., upper and lower-case letters, special characters, and numbers) unique and different for every account.
• When in doubt, enlist the help of an expert cybersecurity professional, including potentially hosting regular security awareness trainings for employees
