Chris Wright interview on KARK Make it Make Sense

The Dangers of Oversharing on Social Media

Sullivan Wright Technologies’ Chris Wright joined KARK 4 for its new streaming show, Make it Make Sense, to share his insights about the influx of social media oversharing. He spoke with Alex Kienlen, the host, about how to balance the benefits of digital platforms while remaining secure. He also cautioned about what can happen when too much information is posted online.

In short? The more you share, the greater the risk. Leaving profile settings public can give anyone access to a wide range of data, including where you live and work, your family members' names, your birth date and more. Chris stated that his goal isn’t to tell people that they must stop using social media entirely, but to be aware. He reminded viewers to understand the consequences, both positive and negative, and the risks associated with using platforms.

Alex and Chris also spoke about the growing problem of bad actors using artificial intelligence to manipulate online images, including other people’s pictures posted to social media. Chris encouraged listeners to consider how what they post can be used against not only themselves, but also friends and family. Just as Chris recommends “Thinking before clicking,” he stresses “Stopping before sharing.”
